Family

George's mother, Alexandra Nikolaevna Serk (nee Smirnova, 1893–1961), was born in St. Petersburg, a botanist by training, was a scientist; father - Victor Akselevich Serk (1891–1931), came from an ancient Norwegian family, also studied the flora and fauna of the Crimea and the Caucasus, but realized himself as a professional musician and composer. [2] Father left Leningrad for Berlin, where he composed music and ended his life, they divorced Alexandra Nikolaevna. In 1929, George’s mother remarried to Vladimir Vatslavovich Grabovetsky (a Pole by nationality), whose surname and patronymic began to be borne by George after adoption. [3]

Pre-war years

In 1930 he entered school No. 215 on Vasilievsky Island, then in 1937 he moved to school No. 6 C, where he was admitted to the Komsomol. In November 1937, the NKVD arrested Vladimir Grabovetsky and on November 27, 1937 he was shot. In December of the same year, the Grabovetsky family (mother, son and daughter) were deported to the Kai district of the Kirov region . Here in the village of Rudnichy in 1939, George graduated from high school and in the same year entered the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute . [3]

In September 1940, he was drafted into the Red Army and sent to serve in Moscow at the Military-Political Academy. IN AND. Lenin, where he studied for three months. He left the academy after a serious illness and returned to his mother. He began to work as a senior mechanic in the communications department in the management of the Vyatlag NKVD .

Education and activities

With the outbreak of World War II, George volunteered for the front, participated as a private in the battles on the Leningrad Front, where in December 1941 he was shell-shocked. After treatment, during the granted vacation - from July 1942 to September 1943, he again worked in Vyatlag. From September 1943 to November 1943 he was a cadet of the II Leningrad Infantry School, stationed in the city of Glazov, Udmurt Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, but due to the aggravation of the effects of shell shock, he was dismissed from the army and entered the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, graduating with a degree in Electrification of Industrial Enterprises. [3] Then he studied at the graduate school of MPEI and in 1952 he defended his thesis on "Development and research of an onboard power supply system with a stable frequency of 400 Hz at a variable speed of rotation of the prime mover". Then he worked as an assistant professor at the Far Eastern Polytechnic Institute (now the Far Eastern State Technical University , Vladivostok ). Since September 1957, all of Georgy Grabovetsky’s subsequent activities were connected with NETI – NSTU , where he was dean of the Electromechanical Faculty (1957–1959), head of the Department of Electrovacuum Engineering and Industrial Electronics (1957–1963), became the founder of the Department of Industrial Electronics and its the first head (1963-1988). In 1965, Grabovetsky created and headed the branch scientific research laboratory of converting equipment (ONIL PT NETI), and in 1987 became the head of the scientific laboratory of aircraft electrical equipment (ONIL OLA NSTU).

In 1970, Grabovetsky didctoral dissertation on the topic “Analysis and methodology for calculating the power circuits of valve frequency converters with direct connection”, and a year later he was awarded the title of professor. Under the guidance of Professor Grabovetsky, 21 candidate dissertations were defended, among his students two doctors of technical sciences. [one]

He died on December 26, 2013 .
