History
In its first general election of 2006, the front received 1.1% of the vote and one seat in parliament won by Jose Merino Del Rio. In the 2010 elections, they retained their deputy seat, which went to Jose Maria Villalta Flores Estrada. Their presidential candidate was the Rector of the Costa Rican Institute of Technology Eugenio Trejos Benavides. In the 2014 presidential election, Congressman Villalta was nominated by the party, whose high support for pre-election opinion polls (he even came out on top) was unusual for left-wing candidates in Costa Rica [2] . However, as a result of an extremely negative campaign launched by the right-wing party against it by the Libertarian movement and the restoration of forces by the moderate left-wing Civil Action Party (PAC), the candidate of the latter, Luis Guillermo Solis, advanced ahead. [3]
According to the election results, Villalta turned out to be the third in the presidential race with 17% of the vote, missing two center-left candidates ahead, but his party significantly increased its representation in parliament from one to nine seats. She also won one mayoral seat in municipal elections in the canton of Barva , and in the cantons of Acosta and Montes de Oca , in alliance with the PAC [4]
During the legislative convocation of 2014-2018, the party suffered from a series of scandals involving its deputies, including the resignation of the representative of Guanacaste and former Catholic priest Ronald Vargas after allegations of sexual harassment , the use of the parliamentary cabinet of Ligia Fallas for romantic meetings of her advisers and charges against the two deputies in domestic violence. In the 2018 election, the party received only 3.9% of the vote and held the only deputy in parliament.
