James Michael Cochran ( born James May 29, 1981 , Burlington ) is an American skier , specialist in slalom and giant slalom . He played for the US alpine skiing team in 2003-2012, the winner of American national championships, a participant in three world championships and two winter Olympic games.

Biography

Jimmy Cochran was born on May 29, 1981 in Burlington , Vermont , USA . He is a representative of the famous ski dynasty of Corcoran, his father Bob won the World Cup and participated in the Olympic Games, aunts Marilyn , Barbara and Lindy were also quite famous skiers, in particular Barbara, the Olympic champion in slalom.

From a young age, Jimmy spoke at major competitions in alpine skiing, choosing for himself the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom. While studying at the University of Vermont , after transferring from Middlebury College in 2003, he represented the Vermont Catamounts university team, then he entered the main team of the American national team and made his debut in the World Cup.

He performed at the 2005 World Championships in Bormio , finished in giant slalom sixteenth.

In 2006, he first entered the top ten at the World Cup stage, becoming the seventh in the giant slalom at the competitions in Slovenian Kranjska Gora. Thanks to a series of successful performances, he won the right to defend the country's honor at the Winter Olympic Games in Turin - he started here in the slalom program and took the final twelfth place in the sum of two attempts.

After the Turin Olympics, Cochran remained part of the main ski team in the United States and continued to take part in major international competitions. So, at the world championship in Au, he was the eleventh in the team event and took 37th place in the giant slalom. In the 2007/08 season, he was twice in the top ten at various stages of the World Cup. He visited the 2009 World Championships in Val d'Isere , where he showed the tenth result in slalom.

Being among the leaders of the American national team, Jimmy Cochran successfully passed the selection for the Olympic Games in Vancouver - this time in the slalom after the first attempt he went to 44 positions (during the descent he fell, but still reached the finish line), the second attempt did not complete and showed no result.

Subsequently, he remained an active professional athlete until 2012. Having completed his sports career, he switched to coaching, held the position of assistant to the head coach of the team of the University of Vermont [1] [2] [3] .
