Richard Shobridge ( born Richard Shoebridge ; born August 12, 1985 , Johannesburg , South Africa ) is a British short-track player , winner of the 2014 World Short Track Championships , and two-time winner of the European Short Track Championships 2011 and 2016 [1] . Member of the 2014 Winter Olympics [2] .

Sports career

Richard Schobridge was born in Johannesburg , South Africa . Subsequently, his family moved to Canada, where he received local citizenship. For four years he was a member of the Canadian speed skating team. In 2010, the family moved to the UK and Richard soon received British citizenship (his father was a British citizen). He trained on the basis of the Mohawks Ice Racing Club [3] . By specialty - kinesiologist , graduated from the University of Calgary in Canada [4] .

The first medal of his career was received during the 2011 European Short Track Championships in the Dutch city ​​of Heerenveen . The British short track team in the men's 5000m relay with a score of 6: 56.025 took third place, ahead of rivals from Russia (6: 54.726 - 2nd place) and the Netherlands (6: 54.608 - 1st place) [5] [6] .

The debut in his career was the 2014 Winter Olympics , which took place in the Russian city of Sochi. Schaubridge was announced to compete in the 1000m race. On February 13, 2014, during the qualifying race of the third group with a result of 1: 27.806, he finished fourth and stopped the further struggle for medals.
