History
The New Brighton Tower Football Club was formed after the construction of the home stadium for the team. A similar situation was with the Sheffield United , Liverpool , Chelsea and Thames clubs. The owners of the , built in opposition to the , decided to build a football stadium next to the tower. In 1896, a football club was founded, which entered the Lancashire League before the start of the 1897/98 season [1] . The club won the Lancashire League in its first season, after which it applied to join the Football League of England . The club’s original application was rejected, but then, when the Football League decided to expand the First and Second Divisions from 16 to 18 teams, the application was accepted. The New Brighton Tower became a member of the Second Division of the Football League [2] .
On the occasion of joining the Football League, the club signed a number of football players, including players from national teams. The New Brighton Tower completed its first season in the Football League quite successfully, taking 5th place (out of 18). In the 1899/1900 season, the team finished in 10th place, and completed its third season in the Second Division of the Football League in 4th place. However, the support of the team was weak (on average 1000 spectators attended home matches of the team) [2] , and the costs of maintaining a professional football club were too high for Tower owners, as a result of which the New Brighton Tower was disbanded in the summer of 1901. Doncaster Rovers took his place in the league.
In 1921, a new club was founded with a similar name, “ ,” playing in the Football League from 1923 to 1951.
The New Brighton Tower was dismantled after the First World War, and the remaining buildings surrounding its complex were destroyed by fire in the late 1960s.
The team’s nickname was Towerites [3] . Their home form initially contained white and blue colors. In the future, the form changed: it was orange-pink t-shirts with black cuffs and white shorts.
