The thallus is light green, elongated, ovoid or ellipsoidal in shape, with a short leg that slightly expands into the sole, and with an aperture at the apex, 2–20 cm high, 0.5–0.8 cm wide. The cells are randomly arranged, polygonal, with rounded corners, the height is 1.3–2 times more than the width, 13–23 μm wide, 12–38 μm long. Chloroplast with 2-7 pyrenoids.
It is characterized by the Azov - Black Sea range, found off the coast of Russia and Ukraine ( Odessa , Kherson , Zaporizhzhya regions). The populations are local, small.
It is also found in Karkinitsky Bay and on the Odessa coast. Dairy and Utlyuk estuaries , Berdyansk spit , “Swan islands”, Sivash , Southern coast of Crimea . There is a downward trend in numbers.
On stones, mollusk shells in the sublittoral and pseudolittoral zones of the seas, sometimes in desalinated waters.
Threats are anthropogenic stress (eutrophication). It is listed in the Red Book of Ukraine , environmental status is rare. It is protected in the Cape Martyan PZ and the Crimean Reserve (Swan Islands).
