History

In the "List of populated areas of the Saratov province according to the data of 1859," the settlement is mentioned as the breech village Baranovka of the Volga district (1st camp) at the Bagay river, located 36 miles from the county town of Volga . There were 200 yards in the village and 1767 inhabitants (824 men and 943 women) lived. There was an Orthodox church and four mills [2] .

According to the “List of Populated Places of the Volsky Uyezd” of the 1914 edition (according to 1911) in the village of Baranovka, which was the center of the Baranovsky volost, there were 460 households and 2596 people (1276 men and 1320 women). Great Russians dominated the national composition of the population. A church, a church school, a zemstvo school, a veterinary station and a postal and telegraph office functioned [3] .

The village is located in the northern part of the region, within the Volga Upland , on the banks of the Bagai River, at a distance of about 27 kilometers (in a straight line) to the west-north-west (WNW) from the city of Volsk . The absolute height is 39 meters above sea ​​level [4] .
