Kranaya [1] ( Greek Κραναή ), Marathonisi [1] ( Μαραθονήσι ) is an island in Greece , in the western part of Lakonikos Gulf opposite Yition on the eastern coast of the Mani Peninsula in Laconia . It belongs to the Anatoliki-Mani community in the peripheral unit of Laconia in the periphery of the Peloponnese .

The name Kranaya comes from other Greek. κρᾰναός "solid, rocky, rocky, steep." The name Marathonisi comes from μάραθος “ fennel, ” a plant that grows on the island.
Homer says that having abducted Elena the Beautiful , Paris was first combined with her on this island [2] . Pausanias mentions the island [3] .
In 1829, the Maniotes built the Tsanetakis Tower on the island. In 1873, a 23-meter stone lighthouse was built from Cape Tenarona [4] . In 1898, the island was connected to the mainland by a dam .
On the island there is the church of Agios Petros (St. Peter).
