Molai [3] [4] ( Greek Μολάοι [2] ) is a small town in Greece . Located at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level [1] , on the Elos Peninsula, 8 kilometers north-east of Elea [4] ( Ελαία [2] ) on the east coast of Lakonikos Bay. It is located in the southeastern part of the Peloponnese , 152 kilometers southwest of Athens , 71 kilometers southeast of Kalamata and 48 kilometers southeast of Sparta . Community administrative center (dima) Monemvasia in the peripheral unit of Laconia in the periphery of the Peloponnese . The population of 2534 is 2011 census. The name comes from lat. mola millstone mill .
On the eastern outskirts of the city runs the national road 86 Monemvasia - Croke [4] ( Κροκεαί [2] ).
History
It is first mentioned as Mola during the period of Francoocracy in 1209 in the Sapienza treaty between Geoffrey I de Villardouin and the Republic of Venice .
He suffered greatly from the Turks during the Peloponnesian uprising in 1770. During the Greek Revolution, the city was destroyed in 1825 by Ibrahim Pasha . After the creation of the kingdom of Greece, it becomes the administrative center of the community of Asopos, and since 1864, the diocese of Epidavros-Limira .
