History

The early years

Prior to the creation of the group, Parker Griggs recorded under the pseudonym Garbage Composal [1] . After the recording ended, Griggs began working with bassist Serena Rose and the duo moved to Colorado. [1] There, Griggs attended the concert of The Black Keys , and he managed to transfer the demo recordings into the hands of its member Dan Auerbach , who helped him in relations with the indie label Alive Naturalsound Records. [2] It was during this period that material was recorded that was included in 2012 in the collection of 3 & 3 Quarters (Russian. 3 and 3 quarters ).

Radio Moscow

Upon returning to Iowa, Luke McDuff became her new bassist [1] . In 2006, the debut album Radio Moscow of the same name was recorded, produced by Auerbach [3] and released in February 2007 [4] . Some time after the release of the album, Luke McDuff was replaced by Zach Anderson [1] .

Brain Cycles & The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz

After 2007, Radio Moscow toured in many parts of the world, with Keith Rich, Todd Stevens and Paul Mayron on drums (at concerts) [1] . The second album, “ Brain Cycles ” (in Russian, “ Brain Cycles ”), was released in April 2009, this time produced by members of the group on their own [4] .

Later, Radio Moscow released their third album, The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz (Russian: "The Great Escape of Leslie Magnatus ") in October 2011 [5] . An previously unreleased album, titled 3 & 3 Quarters , consisting of demos recorded by Griggs in 2003, was released in April 2012 [6] . During a concert in support of the album, Parker and drummer Berry had a physical conflict on stage, and Berry threw a guitar into Parker's head, causing him a severe wound , resulting in 14 stitches for Griggs. Zach Anderson and Corey Berry immediately left the band and founded the Swedish rock band Blues Pills .

Magical Dirt

On their website, Radio Moscow announced plans to release their fourth album sometime in 2013 . Bassist Billy Ellsworth left the band in July and was replaced by Anthony Meyer. On July 15, 2013, the group announced great progress in creating the album. On December 11, 2013, it was announced that the recording of the last album would be launched this month . The album was completed on January 22, 2014 , on February 11, the name was announced - Magical Dirt (Russian " Magic Dirt" ), it was released on June 22 .

New Beginnings

On January 19, 2017, Radio Moscow announced a collaboration with Century Media Records and the start of work on their fifth studio album. The first album on the new label, it was decided to name " New Beginnings " (Russian. " New Beginnings ") and released on September 29. Europe announced the "The Drifting Tour", including several festivals with a special guest - Kaleidobolt.

Musical style and influence

The style of Radio Moscow is often compared with the style of the blues-rock bands of the 1960s and 1970s , in particular power trios such as Cream , The Jimi Hendrix Experience , The Pretty Things , The Who and Blue Cheer [2] [7] . Reviewing Radio Moscow's debut album for the AllMusic website, Greg Preto described the band's sound as “returning to the classic rock of the 70s,” comparing it with some songs by artists such as Ram Jam , The Allman Brothers Band and The Jeff Beck Group [8] . After the release of Brain Cycles, the band is sometimes referred to as an example of a stoner rock artist .
