Biography

Yuri Vasilievich Zyatkovsky was born on February 20, 1938 in Vladivostok. He played for the volleyball team of Dalzavod [1] . In 1960, as part of SKA-Khabarovsk, he became the champion of the Khabarovsk Territory. After completing his studies at the GDIIFK named after P.F. Lesgaft , he taught at the Institute of the Khabarovsk Institute of Railway Engineers .

Since 1967, he headed the department of sports games of the Khabarovsk Institute of Physical Education [2] .

At the same time, he worked as a trainer for the SKIF, SKA teams, the DSO Burevestnik team and the Khabarovsk Territory team. Under the leadership of Zyatkovsky, the SKIF and SKA teams have repeatedly won volleyball championships and cups in the region. With the national team, he twice participated in the final of the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the RSFSR (1972, 1976).

From 1968 to 1990, he headed the Volleyball Federation of the Khabarovsk Territory. He was also a member of the executive committee of the All-Russian and All-Union Volleyball Federations, the National Olympic Committee and the president of the Far Eastern Olympic Academy.

In 1976 he defended his thesis on the topic “Research on the effectiveness of teaching volleyball in physical education institutions” [3] .

From 1979 to 1991 he worked as rector of the Khabarovsk State Institute of Physical Culture [4] [5] .

He died on November 13, 1991 in Khabarovsk.

In memory of Zyatkovsky, annual volleyball tournaments among women's teams of the Khabarovsk and Primorsky Territories [6] [7] and open volleyball competitions among women's teams of the Far Eastern Federal District “Prize of Yu. V. Zyatkovsky - the first president of the Far Eastern Olympic Academy” [8] are held [9] [10] .
