Academician Petrovsky (ship)

Academician Petrovsky (1972-1974 - Moscow University) - a research vessel with a displacement of 932 tons, expeditionary staff of 12 people. Served as a training vessel for the geographical and geological faculties of Moscow State University. He made oceanographic flights to the Black, Mediterranean, Atlantic and Indian oceans.

Until 1972, this vessel, type "Nereida" project 502A, was used as a fishing vessel in the Pacific Ocean - the middle tuna barn.

Content

History

The first owner of the vessel since 1970 was the Ministry of Fisheries of the USSR, the home port of Vladivostok [1] .

In 1972, the ship received the name "Moscow University", it was transferred to Sevastopol , managed by the USSR Ministry of Higher Education and belonged to Moscow State University .

In 1974, the ship was renamed the "Academician Petrovsky", in honor of the Soviet mathematician, rector of Moscow State University (May 18, 1951 - January 15, 1973) Ivan Georgievich Petrovsky [2] .

In 1978 and 1982, scientific expeditions to the Indian Ocean took place.

In 1992, the vessel (Registration No. M-12276) was transferred to the research fleet of Ukraine, in the Sevastopol detachment of research vessels. "Academician Petrovsky" was used for flights in the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

In 1996, the vessel (Register No. 650471) was transferred to SK Poseidon LLC (Register No. 1-050012). It was converted into a passenger-and-freight vessel, and scientific equipment was dismantled.

In 2004, the Experiment and Academician Petrovsky vessels were leased from the Sevastopol Regional Branch of the State Property Fund of Ukraine. Used for shuttle flights Sevastopol - Istanbul .

In 2011, it was handed over for scrap, while the Law on the Rental of State Property of Ukraine was violated [3] .

Scientific work on board

During an expedition to the Atlantic Ocean in 1973, underwater images were taken of the top of the seamount Amper, in the seamount chain of the Mid-Atlantic Range [4]

In 1990, a trial voyage of the vessel as a "floating university" took place.

During the voyage, technical calls were made to the ports: Male ( Maldives ), Bombay (India), Hodeida ( North Yemen ), Aden ( NDRY ), Victoria (Seychelles) , Piraeus ( Greece ), Varna ( Bulgaria ).

The areas of work included Socotra Island (NDRY), Bird Island and Mahe Island, Aldabra Atoll and Seychelles Submarine Bank .

In 1982, 13 flights to the Seychelles took place [6] [7] .

The areas of work were the islands of the Seychelles archipelago : Mahe, Praslin, Silhouette, Africa, Saint-Joseph, Resource, Poir, Derosh, Farquhar, Aldabra, Astov, Assumption, Cosmoledo, Saint-Pierre, Platt, Coetivi and Den.
