Biography
The representative of the noble family coat of arms of Grabe . He studied music in Dresden under the direction of Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf and Johann Adam Hiller . From 1766 to 1780 he was a violinist at the Royal Chapel. In 1780, he came and naturalized in Poland .
Arriving in Poland, he had big plans that focused not only on music. He wanted to create a factory for the production of vinegar and mineral waters , trade musical instruments (piano) and organize a school for organists. Moreover, he was also interested in botany and biology . Later he will be known as the owner of a magnificent botanical collection, as well as a specialist in the treatment of diseases with the help of animal magnetism ( Mesmer’s method).
Until 1811, he served as bandmaster , court musician , teacher , and restorer of instruments in various Polish gentry houses, such as those of the Princes of Czartoryski .
He was engaged in musical education (harpsichord and piano) children of the Countess Isabella Czartoryska . Later he organized an orchestra at the Čartoriyski manor and became the head of the court orchestra.
He preferred to spend time among the Warsaw musical elite, who shared his interests, thanks to which he could free himself from the narrowness of the court musical tastes.
V. Lessel created a collection for the Society of Religious and National Music. [one]
From 1811 he served as an organist in Pulawy.
In addition to numerous piano and harpsichord pieces for four hands, V. Lessel created several preludes for organ, polonaises for orchestra, as well as ten operas and operettas on plots from Polish history (now all are lost).
