The State Museum of Art ( Dat. Statens Museum for Kunst ) is a Danish art museum located in Copenhagen .

The main building of the museum was built between 1889 and 1896 according to the plans of architects Wilhelm Dalerup and G. E. V. Möller in the style of the Italian Renaissance. In the fall of 1998 , a new wing was opened, built under the direction of Anna Maria Indrio and Mads Möller. It is located in the park behind the old building and is connected to it by a covered glass gallery, which houses a collection of sculptures. There are concerts and various performances.
The museum contains art collections dating back to the 12th century. These include works by artists such as Mantegna , Titian , Tintoretto , Brueghel , Rubens , Hals and Rembrandt . The collection of contemporary art includes works by Picasso , Braque , Leger , Matisse , Modigliani and Nolde . Widely represented are paintings, sculptures, installations and other works by Danish authors.
