Football career
A native of South Hindley , Bridon worked as a miner at a local mine, while playing for an amateur football team. In September 1928, he signed a contract with the Barnsley Football League Second Division club. He spent two seasons at the club, but could not become a player of the main team, having played only 8 matches in the league [2] . In November 1930, he joined the Sheffield Wensday First Division club. There, he also did not become the main goalkeeper, acting as a successor for , the goalkeeper of England . Over five seasons, Wensday spent 45 matches for the club in the championship [2] .
In July 1935 he moved to Manchester United for 350 pounds [4] . He made his debut for the club on August 31, 1935 in the first match of the season against Plymouth Argyle , having conceded three goals into his own net [5] . After that, he lost his place in the first team; in the next match, Jack Hall , who was United's main goalkeeper that season, took the place at the gate. Bridon played only 3 matches in the 1935/36 season, in which the team won the Second Division. In the 1936/37 season, Jack Hall left United, but Bridon was still unable to become the main goalkeeper of the team: the first number on the team was North Irish rookie Tommy Breen , and Bridon played only 1 match for the entire season. Jack played 9 games in the 1937/38 season , and spent 22 matches in the league in the 1938/39 season , in which the team played in the First Division. He retained his place at the gates of the team in the 1939/40 season and played in the first three matches of the championship, but then all official tournaments were canceled due to the outbreak of World War II.
In wartime, Bridon played as a guest player for Rochdale , Bolton Wanderers and Manchester City [3] . He also continued to play for Manchester United in military tournaments, playing 164 matches for the club from 1939 to 1944 [4] . In October 1945, he left the team, losing the competition at the United goal to young Jack Crompton [2] [4] . After that, he signed a contract with Burnley . He made his debut for the club on January 7, 1946 in the FA Cup match against Stoke City . It was his only match for Burnley. In May 1946, Bridon left the club and ended his football career [2] .
Coaching career
After the player’s career ended, Bridon was offered the position of head coach at the New Brighton club, but he refused. In August 1947, he accepted the Halifax Town Third Northern Division club offer and was appointed head coach of the team. He held this position for three seasons, during which time the team did not finish the season above 19th place. In 1950 he left the club. Then he worked for several years as a Bradford City scout. In January 1955, he became the head coach of the Bradford Park Avenue club. Nine months later left the club. Later he worked as a scout of the Leeds United club [2] .
