Vazhenin, Andrey Vladimirovich

Andrei Vladimirovich Vazhenin (born March 18, 1958, Chelyabinsk ) is a Russian physician , a scientist in the field of oncology and radiology.

Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2016, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences since 2004) [1] , doctor of medical sciences, professor (1996–7–8), lieutenant colonel of the FSB reserve [2] , creator of the scientific school of oncoradiologists in the Urals [3] .

Head doctor of the Chelyabinsk Regional Clinical Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine (PSCO and NM) since 1998 [4] [5] , head of the Department of Oncology, Radiation Diagnostics and Radiation Therapy of the South Ural State Medical University [6] , chief oncologist of the Ministry of Health of the Chelyabinsk Region (since 2000 [7] [4] ), chief radiologist of the Ural Federal District (since 2015) [4] . Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation (2000).

Biography

Born in a family of doctors, mother - a radiologist-gynecologist, father - a radiologist. He graduated from the Chelyabinsk Physics and Mathematics School No. 31 (1975). He graduated with honors from the Faculty of Medicine of the Chelyabinsk State Medical Institute (1981) with a degree in medical care, after which he was left there in clinical residency at the Department of Oncology. He graduated from it in 1983 and joined the Chelyabinsk Regional Oncology Center, went from a clinical intern to the head doctor of the Chelyabinsk Regional Clinical Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine (since 1998). Under his supervision, 116 dissertations were completed, including 17 doctoral theses [4] .

In 2006, he was elected a member of the Public Chamber of the Chelyabinsk Region and became a member of its Presidium [8] . Member of the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk Region since September 2015 [2] .

In 2017, he was elected Chairman of the All-Russian Society of Nuclear Medicine for three years [9] [10] . The initiator of the Association of Oncologists of the Ural Federal District in 2002 was elected its chairman. He is also the chairman of the regional associations of radiologists and oncologists, the vice-president of the Russian Association of X-ray radiologists, a member of the board of the All-Russian Association of Oncologists and Radiologists. Member of the Chelyabinsk regional public organization "Association of oncological doctors" [8] . Since 1999, a member of the European Association of Radiologists and Oncologists [11] . Member of the Public Council of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom .

Member of the editorial boards of the journals "Bulletin of Surgery. I. I. Grekov ”,“ Russian Oncological Journal ”,“ Ukrainian Radiological Journal ”,“ Siberian Oncological Journal ”,“ Palliative Medicine and Rehabilitation ”,“ Medical Physics ”,“ Problems of Clinical Medicine ”,“ Creative Oncology and Surgery ”.

In 1986, at the Siberian Branch of the ONC RAMS (Tomsk) he defended his thesis “Features of immunity and hormonal secretion in the primary multiplicity of malignant tumors”, performed under the supervision of professors L. Ya. Ebert and E. I. Bekhtereva . In 1993, at the Moscow Scientific Research X-ray and Radiological Institute of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, he defended his doctoral dissertation “Methodological aspects of radiation treatment of cancer of the oropharyngeal zone and lip”, carried out under the supervision of Professor V.P. Harchenko, academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. In 2001, he received his second higher education, graduating from the Academy of National Economy under the Government of the Russian Federation, the faculty of senior officials of state institutions. He also studied at the institutes of advanced studies in Moscow, Leningrad, Kazan, Chelyabinsk, and completed an internship in radiology at the universities of the states of Washington (Seattle) and Texas (Houston) [12] . He has the highest qualification category of a doctor in the specialties "Radiology", "Oncology", "Health Organization" [13] .

The author of hundreds of scientific works, 16 monographs (three of which were published on the recommendation of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences), 36 patents and inventions [4] .

He was awarded the Medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree (2006), laureate of the governor’s prize and diplomas of 2005 and 2006, in 2003 he was awarded a letter of thanks from the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk Region, in 2006 he was awarded the Presidium of the Cosmonautics Association of the Russian Federation with the Medal of Academician V. P Makeeva for success in joint activities in 2004 and 2006 awarded the medals of the Association of Oncologists of the Russian Federation for the development of new methods for the diagnosis and treatment of tumors, in 2008 - the distinction "For Services to the Chelyabinsk Region" [14] . In 2014, the winner of the All-Russian contest "Best Doctor of the Year" in the "Special Nomination" - for those who have made a significant contribution to the development of healthcare [15] . Honorary Citizen of the city of Chelyabinsk (2017) [16] .

Personal life

The second wife is Natalia Zavarzina . Daughter Daria - doctor of medical sciences, associate professor, son Ilya - head of the radiotherapy day hospital CHOKTSO and NM [11] .
