Biography

Born May 15, 1948 in Pilsen . He graduated from Charles University , Faculty of Philosophy, historical archeology .

From 1966 to 1967 - worked as a youth educator.

From 1967 to 1970 - studied at Charles University in Prague .

In 1970 he was arrested for participating in a student movement and received 2.5 years of restraint of liberty.

From 1972 to 1989 - builder and technician of the company "Construction of roads and railways."

In 1976 - signed the “Charter 77”, took an active part in the human rights movement, published in the underground newspaper “Letters”, in the magazine “Testimonies” and in samizdat.

In the 1980s, he was engaged in scientific activities, published more than 130 articles on archeology in a number of magazines in Czechoslovakia and the German Democratic Republic .

Since 1989 - Director of the District Museum in Pilsen-Ssver, subsequently Director of the Department in the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Democracy.

Since 1990 - Deputy Director of the CSFR State Security Service .

From 1991 to 1993 - head of the Independent Commission at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the CSFR .

From 1993 to 1996 - was engaged in entrepreneurial activities in the field of construction and design work, took part in several international projects on the problems of overcoming the consequences of the past.

Since 1993 - collaborated with the Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) as chairman of the security commission.

In 1996, he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, served as chairman of the Standing Committee on Monitoring the Activities of BIS ( Security and Information Service - Counterintelligence ), deputy chairman of the Committee on Defense and Security, was a member of the Czech Permanent Delegation to NATO and a member of the Organizing Committee.

In 1998, he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, a member of the Committee on Defense and Security.

From 1998 to 2000 - Minister of the Government of the Czech Republic (Minister without a portfolio).

From 2000 to 2005 - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Moscow ( Russia ).

From 2006 to 2007 - Deputy Minister of the Czech Foreign Ministry .

From 2007 to 2010 - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Kiev ( Ukraine ).
