Biography

Semyon Venediktovich Petrov was born on February 9, 1951 in the village. Tatsinsky Tatsinsky district of the Rostov region. In 1974 he graduated from the Kazan Medical Institute (1974). He studied at graduate school. In 1985 he defended his thesis on "Functional morphology of the pineal gland in cancer." In 1994 he defended his doctoral thesis on the topic “Histogenesis and diagnosis of cervical and skin epithelial tumors (immunohistochemical and ultrastructural studies). Doctor of Medical Sciences (1994).

He completed an internship in the laboratory of histochemistry and electron microscopy in the department of pathological anatomy of human tumors of the National Medical Research Center for Oncology named after N. N. Blokhin; at the Department of Pathology of the University of Valencia (2007).

At different times he worked in the following positions: surgeon of the Kukmorsky district hospital in the Republic of Tatarstan (1974-1977); Resident of the Department of Hospital Surgery, Practical Physician (1980–1981); Postgraduate Student, Department of Pathological Anatomy, Kazan Medical Institute (1981–1984); Assistant, Senior Lecturer, Department of Pathological Anatomy, Kazan Medical Institute (1984–1996); Professor, Department of Pathological Anatomy, Kazan State Medical University (since 1997); Head of the Laboratory of Immunohistochemical Diagnosis of Tumors of the Republican Clinical Oncology Center of the Ministry of Health of Tatarstan, Kazan (since 1996). President of the Russian branch of MAP (2009–2013).

Under the leadership of S.V. Petrov, 7 candidate and 3 doctoral dissertations were prepared.

Research interests: pathology of tumor diseases with immunohistochemistry, molecular pathogenesis and morphogenesis of tumors, the study of molecular biological markers of diagnosis, FISH diagnostics of tumors in a number of localizations.

Awards and titles

  • Laureate of the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology for the project “Development and implementation in clinical practice of methods for predicting and rational drug therapy of malignant tumors based on the study of molecular biological markers” (2008).
  • Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Tatarstan in the field of science and technology for the project “Development and implementation of fundamental and applied aspects of primary prevention, early diagnosis and improvement of treatment methods for colorectal cancer” (2011).

Semen Venediktovich Petrov is the author of about 200 scientific publications.
