History
The history of the temple begins in the middle of the XIX century. For several centuries, various churches were built and destroyed here. The very first Anglican church in Auckland was St. Paul's Church. In 1849 the church of St. Barnabas was built here, which was later destroyed.
In 1860 the church of St. Mary was founded, but it was small. In 1886, the old church was demolished and the construction of a new church of St. Mary began on the site. The building was designed by Benjamin Mountfort in the Gothic style; construction completed in 1897. Until 1973, the cathedral and the main Anglican church of Auckland were located here. In 1982, St. Mary's Church was moved from Parnell to its current location next to the Cathedral.
In 1973, the construction of the Holy Trinity Cathedral was completed, the foundation of which was laid in 1957.
The current Holy Trinity Cathedral was designed in 1991, and construction was completed by 1995. The architectural style of the building is different in that it combines two completely different styles. The cathedral has a gabled roof with three peaks and two main entrances. The east and west wings are distinguished by stained glass windows. [3]
