Biography
Born in 1961 in Helsinki . He studied at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Helsinki . He received a doctorate in meteorological sciences.
In 1997, he became an assistant professor at the University of Eastern Finland , and also lectured on atmospheric dynamics, global changes and Earth observations at the University of Helsinki and the University of Helsinki. In 2000-2002, he was a research professor in the field of remote sensing of the ozone layer. In 2002, he became director of the Finnish Meteorological Institute . In 2005 - Director of the Department of Development and Regional Activities. In 2007, he returned to the post of director of the Meteorological Institute, which he held until 2015.
The author of about 50 publications on satellite technologies, global climate change and atmospheric chemistry, as well as dozens of other publications and presentations.
Since January 1, 2016, he has been the Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization , to which he was elected by the World Meteorological Congress in 2015 for a four-year term of office.
