Biography

Born in Kiev in the family of Moses Yevseyevich (Ovshievich) Mandelberg, a native of Berdichev . He had a younger brother, Yevsei (1903-1974), later an engineer. He studied at the Imperial University of St. Vladimir in Kiev . He studied painting at an art studio in Rostov-on-Don . Pupil E. E. Lancere .

In 1924 he first acted as a theater artist. In the Kiev Theater for Children he designed the play “The Nightingale” by H. K. Andersen .

Since 1926 he lived and worked in Moscow. Together with the director F.N. Kaverin, he worked on the problems of designing performances on the small stage in the studio of the Maly Theater and then in the Moscow Drama Theater ( A. Hushs Lekert) by A. Kushnirov at the State Jewish Theater of the BSSR (1928), V. Shkvarkin ’s Schuler ( 1928), “Pereplav” D. Scheglov (1929), “Friendship” by V. Gusev (1935), “Maria Tudor” Hugo (1938), etc.

Supervised the festive decoration of Pushkin Square in Moscow during the Pushkin anniversary of 1937 .

Many engaged in fluorescent theatrical painting . In 1944, under the leadership of E. Mandelberg, the world's first experimental laboratory was created, in which the combined efforts of artists, chemists and lighting engineers developed methods for using luminous paints in the theater. Yarullina (1939–1940) in Kazan , Leyli and Majnun " Glier in Tashkent (1948). He owns the design of the programs of the State Folk Dance Ensemble of the USSR , the Moscow State Circus , etc.

The author of the ballet libretto “ Laurencia ” after the drama Lope de Vega “The Sheep Source.” (1939, the Leningrad Opera and Ballet Theater named after Kirov ).

He published caricatures and caricatures in the magazines “Krasnaya Niva” , “Modern Theater” , “New Spectator”, etc. He created a number of political and propaganda posters .

He was the author of a number of luminescent-pictorial decorative works (1936-1956), sketches (with T. G. Klyukas and B. M. Baranov), illustrations, several popular science books, a participant in art exhibitions [2] [3] .
