Severny is a settlement in the Khvalynsky district of the Saratov region , the administrative center of the rural settlement of the Northern municipality .

History
In 1874, Count O.L. Medem acquired lands in the Fedorov volost of the Khvalynsky district , on which the modern settlement Severny is located. Formed around the count's estate estate in honor of the hostess was named Alexandria. At the beginning of the 20th century , a silo tower, barns, greenhouses, a wooden glacier were built, a farm and a cheese-making factory began to work, in 1907 a steam mill was launched. The two-storey manor house was located on the shore of the lower pond , near which the manor park was organized. Medem also owned a grain marina and fishing on the Volga River with nearby islands. In 1913, a church was built in Alexandria [2] .
In 1918, the estate was nationalized. In the place of the Alexandria farm, a settlement was built in Severny - the central estate of the state farm No. 58 and the center of the Northern Village Council [2] .
In the Great Patriotic War , 127 residents of the village were killed. In 1959, a kindergarten and a nursery were built in the village. In 1965, a new typical two-storey school was built in the village [2] .
Physical-geographical characteristic
The settlement is located within the Volga Upland , which is part of the East European Plain , in the Lake District (the Tereshka River basin), at an altitude of about 100 meters above sea level [3] . The soils are saline chernozems [4] .
The settlement is located about 27 km in a straight line to the north from the district center of the town of Khvalynsk . On roads, the distance to the district center is 40 km, to the regional center of the city of Saratov - 270 km [5] .
