Mark Mironovich Mandelbaum ( January 17, 1929 , Chisinau , Romania - January 9, 2017 , Irkutsk ) is a Soviet and Russian geologist, one of the pioneers of the Verkhnechonsky oil and Kovykta gas condensate fields. Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences (1968), Professor (1970).

Biography
Born in Chisinau (at that time as part of Bessarabia annexed by Romania), in the family of printing worker Meyer Froimovich (Miron Efremovich) Mandelbaum and Rakhili Markovna (Mordhelevna) Itelzon. He graduated from Chisinau State University with a degree in geology (1952).
In 1949-1952 - the collector of Moldavneftegeologiya; in 1952-1955 - geologist, senior geologist, head of the seismic survey party of the Eastern Geophysical Trust in Irkutsk . From 1955 to 2007, he was chief geologist at the State Public Institution Irkutskgeofizika. The dissertation of the candidate of geological and mineralogical sciences on the subject “Geological structure and oil and gas potential of the Verkhneangarsk dislocation zone” was defended in 1961, and the doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences on the subject “Methodological foundations of oil and gas prospecting studies in the southern part of the Siberian Platform” - in 1966. Since 1970 - Head of the Department of Regional Geology and Geophysics, Irkutsk State University .
One of the pioneers of the Verkhnechonskoye oil and Kovykta gas condensate fields.
He is the author of 12 monographs, including “Oil and gas potential of Paleozoic sediments on the Nepa arch”, “Nepa-Botuobinsky anteclise” (M .: Nedra, 1986), “Direct search for hydrocarbons by geophysical methods” (Moscow: Nauka, 1988), “Differential standardized methods of electrical exploration "(1996).
Winner of the Prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR for the monograph “Geology and Seismicity of the BAM Zone” (1988) and the State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology for the scientific justification and discovery of oil and gas deposits in the Precambrian deposits of the Siberian Platform (1994).
He was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples (1986), the medal "For Labor Valor" (1976); three signs “ Discoverer of the deposit ” (1989), signs “ Honorary prospector of the subsoil ” (1989), “Excellence in subsoil exploration” (1979), “Honorary veteran of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences” (1983). Honored Geologist of the Russian Federation (1983). Honorary citizen of the Irkutsk region.
Wife - Tamara Anatolyevna Mikhaleva, party worker, daughters - Olga, Ph.D., and Svetlana, geologist.
