Biography
Born on April 4, 1915 in Petrograd in the family of the dentist Movshi (Moisha) Ioselevich Ziv.
Since 1931, after graduating from high school, he worked as a preparation agent at the All-Union Aluminum-Magnesium Institute. In 1932 he entered the Leningrad State University at the Faculty of Chemistry (diploma with honors, 1937).
From 1938 to 1967 - at the Radium Institute: graduate student, junior researcher, senior researcher, since 1954 the head. the laboratory. In 1941-1942 served in the Red Army.
Doctor of chemical sciences, professor.
He proposed highly sensitive methods for determining trace amounts of rare elements. Developed a method for isolating polonium. One of the founders of a new field of radiochemistry is electro-radiochemistry, which studies the electrochemical properties of radioactive elements in a state of extreme dilution.
Twice laureate of the Stalin Prize (1951, 1953), laureate of the Lenin Prize (1966). He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor , medals.
He died on February 16, 1967.
