Biography

Born May 9, 1944 in the village. Kalnik Vinnitsa region of the Ukrainian SSR . In 1951-1961 he studied at the Kalnitsky school, and in 1961-1969 at the Molodogvardiysky technical and Krasnoarmeysky pedagogical schools, which he graduated with honors. In 1969 he entered and in 1974 he graduated with honors from the History Department of Kiev State University. T. Shevchenko.

In 1984, he defended his thesis on "The first stage of the liberation movement in Russia in the studies of historians of Soviet Ukraine (1917-1980)" [2] . Supervisor - D. and. n., prof. V.N. Kotov. In 1997 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: “The Decembrists' Movement: the historiography of the problem (1917 — mid-1930s)”, specialty - “Historiography, source studies and special historical disciplines” [3] .

Since 1977 - assistant, since 1989 - assistant professor, since 2000 - professor at the Department of Russian History. Since 2001 - Head of the Department of History for the Faculty of Humanities of KSU [4] .

Scientific activity

Prepared 3 doctors and 27 candidates of historical sciences [4] (data for early 2017). Author of more than 550 (data for the beginning of 2018 ) scientific, popular science and journalistic works [4] . Among them are 35 monographic studies, brochures and lecture courses. Explores the problems of historiography, bibliography, history of Ukraine, Russia, local history. Organizer and leader of the Decembrist Readings international conferences (1987-2005).

Member of the editorial boards of a number of periodicals of a historical profile, in particular: “Bulletin of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. History ”,“ Scientific notes: Series of historical sciences ”(Kirovograd),“ Sivershchina in the history of Ukraine: Sat. scientific works ”,“ Problems of the history of Ukraine of the 19th – beginning of the 20th centuries ”,“ Bulletin of the Irkutsk State University ”(“ History ”series) and others. Editor-in-chief of the magazine“ Social History: A Scientific Collection ”(Issue IX, 2007— 2015 pp.). For many years, he has been editing the series “Decembrist readings” (10th edition, 1987-2005) and the collections “Decembrists in Ukraine: research and materials” (5th edition).
