Alexander Yakovlevich Selitsky (born July 28, 1949, Artemovsk, Donetsk region of the Ukrainian SSR) is a musicologist, teacher, scientist, publicist, and musical public figure. Doctor of Arts (1997), professor (1998), member of the Union of Composers of Russia (1988), full member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (2004) [1] .

Biography
Alexander Yakovlevich Selitsky was born in 1949 in the city of Artemovsk in the family of a military man. In 1964 he graduated from the music school in the city of Artemovsk (VV Parzhitsky became a teacher).
In 1973 he graduated from the Rostov State Musical Pedagogical Institute, class of Professor L. Ya. Khinchin. He served in the army. After demobilization, he taught at the Department of Music History of the Rostov Music and Pedagogical Institute (now the Rostov State Conservatory named after S.V. Rachmaninov).
He continued his education in graduate school. In 1976-1980 he studied at the correspondence post-graduate course of the All-Russian Research Institute of Art Studies (now the State Institute of Art Studies ) under the guidance of Professor Marina Dmitrievna Sabinina .
In 1981 he defended his thesis on the topic: “Modern Soviet monoopera. The origins. Questions of the specifics of the genre. " He studied at the doctoral program of the Moscow State Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky (scientific consultant - professor M. E. Tarakanov) [2] . At the end of his doctorate in 1997 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Nikolai Karetnikov. Life and art".
Since 1974, he has been working as a teacher at the Rostov State Conservatory, giving courses in the history of music, basics of musical criticism, etc. In 2003, he was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.
Research interests: the history of Russian music of the 19th – 20th centuries, the work of composers M. Glinka, N. Rimsky-Korsakov, S. Rachmaninov, G. Sedelnikov, G. Frid, N. Karetnikov and others; musical drama; musical criticism, opera house.
In 2002, he created and for 11 years led the editorial and publishing department of the Rostov Conservatory. In 2010-2013 he worked as the chief editor of the magazines South Russian Musical Almanac and Rostov Conservatory. As a journalist, he wrote articles in the magazines Soviet Music, The Academy of Music, Literary Issues, in scientific collections, etc.
At various times, he was the host of concerts with the participation of composers G. Kancheli , V. Silvestrov, B. Tishchenko, artists Yu. Bashmet, F. Lips, S. Yakovenko, R. Martynov. Conducts concerts at the Taganrog Municipal Chamber Orchestra, holds meetings with spectators at the Fourth Bell Musical Theater.
In the 1990–2000s, he participated in international festivals and conferences.

Alexander Yakovlevich Selitsky is the author of about 150 articles on musical and theatrical life and musicians of Rostov, on the work of Don composers, the Philharmonic, the Musical Theater, the Rostov Conservatory, and monographs:
