Chris Chibnall ( born Chris Chibnall ; born 1970 , Lancashire , England , UK ) is a British television screenwriter and producer. Best known for his work on the science fiction series Torchwood and the detective series Murder on the Beach . January 22, 2016 it became known that he will replace Stephen Moffat as a show runner of the cult science fiction series Doctor Who starting in 2018 [1] .

Biography
Chris Chibnell was born in 1970 in the county of Lancashire , England , and grew up in the city of in the county of Merseyside . He studied dramatic art in Twickenham , and received a master ’s degree in theater and cinematography from the University of Sheffield. [2]
At the beginning of his career, he worked as a football archivist and studio manager at Sky Sports [3] , after which he worked as an administrator in various theater companies. From 1996 to 1999 he worked as an administrator in the experimental theater of the company , where he met his wife Madeline ( born Madeline ).

Chibnell's first short play was staged as part of the festival in 1988, directed by Lawrence Till [4] . While studying at college, Chibnell wrote two plays, Victims, and Now We Are Free , performed at the , directed by Edward Lewis . In 1998, he worked as a screenwriter for GRiP Theater Company, where he wrote three standard length plays, including Best Daze and Old Man! ( Gaffer! ), As well as several short plays . In 2004, the play “The Old Man!” Was again staged at the .
In 1999, Chibnell worked at the Royal National Theater , and 2000 at , where he wrote the play Kiss Me Like You Mean It . The play was played by Katherine McCormack . The play was nominated for was staged around the world, including three months of successful performance in Paris in 2004.

In 2001, Chibnell and created the drama television series The . The series was broadcast on the BBC One channel from 2002 to 2005. Chibnell was the lead screenwriter and producer of the project, writing 17 of the 36 episodes of the series.
Chibnell wrote the screenplay for two episodes of Life on Mars in 2006 and 2007.
During 2005, Chibnell was busy developing a new fantasy series about the mythical wizard Merlin for Saturday's broadcast on BBC One in the morning, but despite the fact that several scripts had already been written, it was decided not to end the project [5] . However, the television series Merlin (2008-2012) was later launched, but without the participation of Chibnell.
In 2007, Dick Wolfe and selected Chibnell as the showrunner of the new procedural drama Law and Order: London , a remake of the American television series Law and Order [6] . He wrote 6 of 13 episodes of the first season based on the scripts of the original series. ITV ordered the second season [7] [8] , but Chibnell decided to leave the series to focus on other projects [9] .
Chibnell was also a showrunner for the Camelot television series Starz , which aired in April 2011 [10] [11] . The series was not extended for the second season, although Chibnell said that in any case he would leave the show because of other projects [12] .
In December 2013, he wrote the script for the two-part drama The Great Train Robbery , which tells the story of the Great Train Robbery on August 8, 1963. By pure chance, the first part of the film was broadcast on the day of the death of one of the train robbers Ronnie Biggs [13] [14] [15] .
Chibnell’s dramatic television series, “ Beach Killing, ” received rave reviews from critics. [16] [17] [18] The finals of the first season were watched by almost 9 million people [19] . In 2014, Fox released an American remake of the series called Gracepoint , Chibnell also acted as executive producer and wrote the script for the first episode [23] .
Doctor Who
Chibnell is a longtime fan of Doctor Who . He appeared on the BBC television show “Open Air” in 1986 as a representative , criticizing the quality of the series at that time [24] .
In 2005, Chibnell was appointed chief screenwriter and co-producer of the science fiction drama Torchwood . The series is a spin-off of Doctor Who, premiered in October 2006 on BBC Three . At that time, the series became a record audience for unsportsmanlike transmission of a digital channel in the UK [25] . Torchwood received several awards and nominations [26] [27] . In the United States, the television series was broadcast on and , receiving positive reviews from critics [28] . Chibnell wrote 8 episodes of the series, including the final episodes of the first two seasons and the first episode of the second season.
In 2007, while working on Torchwood, Chibnell wrote the script for episode 42 of the third season of Doctor Who [29] .
He returned to work on Doctor Who in 2010 and wrote the scripts for two episodes - Hungry Earth and Cold Blood . Chibnell also wrote episodes 2 and 4 of season 7 — Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and Strength of Three . In addition, he wrote five special mini-releases of Pond 's Life . He later wrote the script for the short film “ Postscript (Doctor Who), ” which was never shot, but was released online as a storyboard of drawings.
In January 2016, BBC announced that Chibnell would replace Stephen Moffat as the Doctor Who showrunner in 2018 [1] starting season 11 [30] . Matt Strevens became executive producer with Chibnell . ), who produced " Adventure in Space and Time " [31] . After announcing that Jodie Whittaker would play the Thirteenth Doctor in July 2017, Chibnell said he was very happy about this and always wanted a woman to become the new Doctor [32] [33] .
Chibnell wrote the script for the last moments of the episode " Twice in Time " so that he could write the first words of Whittaker in the series. The same thing happened in a special episode, “ End of Time, ” when Moffat replaced Russell T. Davis in the final moments of the series to write Matt Smith's first words as the Eleventh Doctor. [34]
