Biography
Alexander Mikhailovich Lerer was born on May 1, 1946 in Rostov-on-Don. In 1970 he graduated from the Physics Department of Rostov University. After graduation, he worked as a junior research fellow at the university’s laboratory. He continued his education in graduate school - in 1971-1974 he studied in the specialty "Physical Electronics" at Rostov State University.
In 1974 he defended his thesis in the field of physical and mathematical sciences on the topic: “Application of paired integral equations to the calculation of some microwave devices”.
He worked as a senior fellow at the Department of Quantum Radiophysics, Research Institute of Physics at Rostov University. In 1989, he became a doctor of physical and mathematical sciences after defending a doctoral dissertation on the topic: "Electrodynamic methods of analysis of planar and dielectric microwave structures." After defending his dissertation, he worked as a leading researcher at the Research Institute of Physics at Rostov University.
In 1992-1996 he worked as a professor at the Department of Microwave Physics, Faculty of Rostov University. In 1996, he moved to work as a leading researcher in the department of quantum radiophysics at Rostov University. Since 1999, he became a professor at the Department of Electrodynamics, and since 2002, a professor at the Department of Applied Electrodynamics at Rostov University.
In 2008, he was elected an academician of the Academy of Sciences of Applied Radio Electronics of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
Research interests: high-frequency electrodynamics, mathematical modeling of diffraction processes, study of the propagation of monochromatic and unsteady electromagnetic waves. A.M. Lerer proposed new methods for solving problems of mathematical modeling of microwave, EHF, and optical ranges. Under his leadership, 9 candidate dissertations were defended at the university.
