History
The construction of the stadium in the city of Puerto Ordaz, which is now part of Ciudad Guayana, began in 1988. The Gino Scarigella stadium was completed in 1990 and originally bore the name of a football referee of Italian descent who died during an amateur team match at the site where this stadium was subsequently built. However, from the very beginning the press called the new complex almost exclusively as “Polideportivo Kachamay” - the word “Polideportivo” emphasized the versatility of the sports facility, and “Kachamay” is the name of a nearby park. After the opening, the football stadium accommodated 14 thousand spectators [1] [2] .
The next stage in the history of the stadium was the Cup of America, which in 2007 was first entrusted to host Venezuela. The state-owned corporation Corporacion Venezolana de Guayana leased the territory of the “General Entertainment Center Cachamay” ( Centro Total de Entretenimiento Cachamay ) for 25 years from the state government of Bolívar. Complete reconstruction of the stadium cost the state $ 74.4 million. Thanks to her, the capacity of the arena increased to 41.6 thousand spectators (subsequently 41.3 thousand), which made Polydeportivo Cachamai the fourth stadium of Venezuela, only slightly inferior to the Metropolitan de Merida [3] .
Within the framework of the America's Cup 2007 in Ciudad Guayana, three games were held [4] :
