Career
Asbjørn Ruud was born in 1919 into a sports family. His elder brothers are famous world champions and Olympic medalists Sigmund and Birger . The younger to take also became an athlete, like the brothers jumped from a springboard, actively used the Kongsberg technique of jumping, developed by older brother Zygmund.
In 1938, at the World Championships in Finnish, Lahti Asbjörn Ruud, in a bitter rivalry with the Pole Stanislav Marusage, was ahead of him by 0.3 points and became a world champion at the age of 18. For more than half a century, Ruud Jr. was the youngest world champion in ski jumping, until in 1995 his achievement surpassed compatriot Tommy Ingebrigsten . The Ruud brothers also became the first family in history, three representatives of which became world champions in one discipline. He became the ninth in the last World Cup before World War II .
In 1946, Asbjørn became the first post-war champion in Norway, in 1948 he repeated this achievement and got into the Olympic team at the Games in St. Moritz , where he performed in ski jumping with his brother Birger. Asbjørn took the seventh place, losing 7.9 to champion Petter Hugsted , and also lost to his second brother.
He died in 1989, the first of the Ruud brothers.
