Contribution to the study of the White movement
The historian S. V. Karpenko notes that V. D. Zimina laid the foundation for the study of White statehood in its modern sense, as well as “formulated original theoretical views, developed and applied innovative approaches, and outlined further ways to study this complex, multifaceted problem.” The historian writes that Zimina’s approach to the study of the White Cause was distinguished by distinguishing the White State’s statehood from the entire “white” topic, which was seen as a continuation of the statehood of the Russian Empire . The extremely important conclusions, including the thesis that “the model of the white state system of Russia combined totalitarian and democratic principles”, which “created a wide field for political combinations,” the historian Zimina was able to draw through a deep and systematic identification of the general and the special, a purposeful search for the answer to the question why the White movement was defeated [3] .
With all his many years of fruitful work V.D. Zimina embodied in reality the assumption that she repeatedly expressed (which soon became, in fact, a confident assertion) that the study of the history of the White movement, as well as the history of the Civil War in general, “should proceed steadily: from the regime to the region and further to Russia as a whole. This path is not from simple to complex - “in a straight line”, but rather “in a spiral”, since the ultimate goal is to determine the patterns of development of the political process in Russia. And it is unlikely that such a process can be schematized taking into account all its local and national characteristics [3]- S.V. Karpenko
VD Zimina asked for the long term the direction of studying the statehood of the White movement. And this “vector”, writes the historian Karpenko, immediately threw to the sidelines many of the works that appeared in the 1990s, in the wake of the almost massive interest in the White movement [3] .
