Lutzelshtein (palatinate)

Lutzelstein Castle

Palatine Lutzelstein ( German Lützelstein ) - a princedom in the Holy Roman Empire , which existed from 1598 to 1697.

Lutzelshtein castle from the XII century belonged to the counts of Leiningen . In 1462, after the end of their clan, he was captured by the Elector of the Palatinate Frederick I.

In 1553, during the next section of the Palatinate, Lutzelshtein went to Wolfgang Zweibrucken, who ceded it to his uncle Ruprecht von Feldenz . The son of the latter, Georg Hans I, died in 1592, after which his possessions on behalf of the children were managed by his widow Anna Maria Shvedskaya. In 1598, her sons shared her father’s inheritance, and Lutzelshtein and the surrounding area received Hans August. He died in 1611 childless. He was succeeded by a younger brother - Hans II von Palatinate-Guttenberg, who named his enlarged possessions the Palatinate Lutzelshtein-Guttenberg. He also died without leaving direct heirs (1654), and his principality again departed to the Palatinate-Veldenz.

Under the Riswick Treaty of 1697, Lutzelshtein became part of France.
