On May 11, 2010, David Cameron formed a coalition government with conservatives and liberal Democrats in the May 6, 2010 parliamentary elections , in which Mitchell received the portfolio of the Minister for International Development [3] .

On September 4, 2012, Cameron carried out a cabinet change, among other measures relocating Mitchell to two lower positions - the main parliamentary organizer and parliamentary secretary of the Treasury [4] .

Already on October 19, 2012, Mitchell resigned due to a scandal surrounding his conflict with the police four weeks earlier, during which he said the phrase: “I thought you guys were supposed to f *** ing help us”. Nevertheless, in a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, he denied the fact that he used the word “ plebs ” in a skirmish [5] . A later investigation revealed Mitchell's innocence, and policeman Keith Wallis admitted in court that he had given false evidence against the politician [6] .
