Pyeongchang ( cor. 평창읍 ) is a county town in Gangwon-do Province, South Korea . The administrative center of the same name is Pyeongchang County.

Sport
Although the city is the center of the county where the Winter Olympic Games and the Winter Paralympic Games of 2018 are held, no events are planned in the city of Pyeongchang.
Tourism
Pyeongchang is a multifunctional ski resort where: Alpenzia ski resort, biathlon complex, Yongpyeong ski center and Chunbon stadium, ski jumping center, Pugwan Phoenix Park snowboard and freestyle park, and soon there will be a bobsleigh track. The main cultural attractions are the Buddhist monasteries of Volgjons and Sanvons.
Geography
The city is located in the southern part of Gangwon-do Province, on the banks of the Pyeongchang River. It is located 115 km southeast of the center of Chuncheon Province and 180 km east of Seoul .
