Biography

Born into a family of Zhytomyr employees. During the fascist occupation of his native land, he was evacuated to the city of Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg ), soon became half orphan, as his father died in 1942 near Stalingrad. In 1944, the mother, together with the organization where she worked, returned to Ukraine, first to the city of Izyum, Kharkiv region, then to Shostka, Sumy region, and in October 1945 to her native Zhytomyr . Pictures of Ukraine burned and destroyed by the war, which the boy saw, moving from place to place, remained forever in his heart and sparked the love of his homeland and native land.

Studying at school, the young man became interested in history and journalism, and when it came time to choose a profession, the love of history won out. But he did not change journalism, as evidenced by his numerous publications in the periodical press.

In 1951 he entered the historical department of the Faculty of History and Philology of the Zhytomyr State Pedagogical Institute named after Ivan Franko . At that time, such well-known scientists as L. A. Kovalenko, R. N. Oksenyuk, and others taught at that time. They further sparked interest in history, and L. A. Kovalenko attracted a student to research work and to search activity in the archives.

After graduating from the Institute in 1955, there was a short teaching activity in the Bystryk secondary school in the Ruzhinsky district of the Zhytomyr region. Then he served in the army, and on his return, he began teaching in schools in Zhytomyr. At the same time, B. A. Kruglyak works first as head of tourist circles in the regional children's excursion and tourist station, and then as head of the tourism department at the Palace of Pioneers and Schoolchildren.

Tourist excursion work, trips around the territory of the native land, acquaintance with the events that took place in those cities and villages where I happened to be, caused the need to study in depth the history of the native land and Ukraine as a whole.

In 1962, his first publication appeared in the newspaper Sovetskaya Zhytomyr Region, and since that time Boris Abramovich has become a regular contributor to the rubric “Homeland”. Many local lore materials were published by him and in the youth newspaper “Komsomolskaya Zvezda”.

But not only local history attracted researchers, he was interested in other problems, for example, the history of Poland, Ukrainian-Polish-French relations, the life and work of famous personalities in Russian history. In 1968, his first article appeared in the Ukrainian Historical Journal, and this marked the beginning of his collaboration with such an authoritative scientific publication. It seemed that his scientific interests were defined. But everything turned out differently. Fate decreed that B. A. Kruglyak met with Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR I. Gurzhy, and he offered him to work on the problem of the development of trade in Ukraine in the first decades after reform. Then, in 1968, he became an applicant for the history department of capitalism at the Institute of History, Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The supervisor agreed to become I. A. Gurzhiy. But it was not their court to cooperate for a long time After the death of I. A. Gurzhiya, F. Ye. Elk and I. S. Slabeev and the entire department of the history of capitalism provided tremendous assistance in the development of this topic.

In 1977, Boris Abramovich defended his thesis on the academic council at the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and received the academic title of candidate of historical sciences.

He combined his research activities with the work of a history teacher in secondary school No. 32, read lectures on the history of the Zhytomyr region at the regional institute for the improvement of teachers, and was the head of the methodical association of teachers of the history of the city. For pedagogical skills and active social activities distinguished by letters and thanks.

But work at school did not allow to constantly and seriously engage in scientific research. And when Boris Abramovich decided to switch to teaching in a higher school, he had no place not only in Zhytomyr, but also in Ukraine. The party-bureaucratic system, implementing the "Leninist national policy", did not allow him, a person of non-Ukrainian nationality, to work in a higher educational institution. True, this was not openly mentioned, but there were many reasons for refusal. Therefore, in 1978, B. A. Kruglyak, after his election as an associate professor, went to the city of Syzran, where he began working in a branch of the Kuibyshev (Samara) Polytechnic Institute. There, he very long established himself as a scientist, teacher and organizer. In 1983, he became the dean of the mechanical faculty, and in February 1984 he was elected head of the department of social sciences, and later the humanities.

I work in the Russian province, Boris Abramovich did not leave the research work on the history of Ukraine. It was then that the Scientific Council "Basic laws of the national history of the pre-October period" at the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine approved the theme of his doctoral dissertation "Domestic trade in Ukraine at the end of XIX - early XX century" and the monograph of the same name.

Boris Abramovich is constantly printed on the pages of the Ukrainian Historical Journal on the problems of the formation and development of the domestic market, he is given the opportunity to speak with articles and reports in the scientific collections “Russian History” (edition of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine), “History of the National Economy and Economic Thought” (edition of the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine). It is printed in the intercollegiate republican collection, which is published by Kharkov University, as well as in the leading professional journal of Russian historians “National History”.

In 1992, the publishing house of the Samara University published a monograph “Domestic trade in Russia at the end of the XIX and the beginning of the XX centuries. On the materials of Ukraine. It analyzes the development, place and role of such an important sector of the national economy as trade, identifies its main trends that have manifested themselves in the Ukrainian market, and shows the significance of the positive experience of this sector of the economy for building an independent Ukraine.

Working as head of the department, B. A. Kruglyak paid a lot of attention to scientific and methodological work. He is the author or co-author of guidelines that helped students master historical knowledge. There, in Syzran, Boris Abramovich conducted significant public work, collaborated with local newspapers and radio, was engaged in economic and sociological research.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the new Ukraine began to pursue a policy aimed at equality of constitutional rights of all its citizens, in August 1992, B. A. Kruglyak returned to his hometown and began working as an assistant professor in the department of economics and production organization of a branch of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute. He was offered to teach the course “Theories of Economic Thought” and political economy.

Less than a year, Boris Abramovich worked as an assistant professor. July 1, 1993, he headed the department of socio-political and humanities, and in October became head of the department of economics at the Zhytomyr Institute of Entrepreneurship and Modern Technologies. At the same time, his collaboration with the institute for the improvement of teachers was resumed, where he gave a course of lectures on the history of his native land and current problems in the history of Ukraine. He systematically gives lectures to researchers of the Zhytomyr Regional Museum, takes part in conducting scientific meetings and seminars, and helps in organizing scientific conferences.

Added new content and its local history activities. In 1993, he was elected vice-head of the Volyn Society of Researchers, which resumed his activities, where he is responsible for scientific work. B. Kruglyak's scientific interests and research activities are not limited to Zhytomyr. He is the author of maps on economics to the atlas of Volyn developed at Volyn State University named after Lesya Ukrainka, maintains permanent scientific and creative relations with the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, collaborates with the department of national economy of the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

January 28, 1994 at a meeting of the specialized council of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, he successfully defended his thesis, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences.
