Biography

Moses Abramovich Greenberg was born on July 19, 1904 in Rostov-on-Don. In Rostov-on-Don in 1928 he graduated from the music department of the Rostov Pedagogical Institute (now Rostov State Pedagogical University ) in piano (teacher Vasily Vasilievich Shauba) [1] .

After graduation, he worked in concert organizations and music publications in Rostov-on-Don and in Moscow. Member of the CPSU (b) since 1930. Since 1936 he worked as the director of the State Musical Publishing House “Muzgiz”, at the same time he worked as the chief editor of the magazine “Soviet Music” (1937-1939), the organizer and first editor of the specialized newspaper “Music”. His sister, Greenberg Zinaida Abramovna (1892-1967), a pianist, taught at the Rostov School of Arts, was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.

Since 1937, M. Greenberg was a member of the Union of Composers of the USSR. Since 1938, he also worked as head of the Main Music Directorate of the All-Union Committee for the Arts under the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR.

With the participation of Moses Abramovich Grinberg, musicals were organized in the Soviet Union: the State Choir, the State Orchestra of Folk Instruments, the State Jazz Orchestra of the USSR , the State Wind Orchestra, the State Dance Ensemble of the Peoples of the USSR, also conducted all-union decades of Soviet music, organized music competitions, and congresses of composers THE USSR.

Before the war, in 1939-1841, M. Greenberg was deputy art director of the Konstantin S. Stanislavsky and V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Musical Theater . In 1941-1949, he headed the All-Union Radio Radio Music Broadcasting Department.

Since 1953 he worked as the musical and artistic director of the Moscow State Academic Philharmonic . He wrote several music-critical articles.

Moses Abramovich Grinberg died on October 13, 1968 in Moscow, was buried with his wife, pianist Tatyana Iosifovna Goldfarb (1914-1964) at the Novodevichy cemetery .
