Kreshevo ( Bosnian Kreševo ) is a city, the center of the community of the same name in the central part of Bosnia and Herzegovina . Administratively, it is part of the Middle Bosnian canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina .

It is located away from the main transport routes of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the mountains between Fojnica and Kiseljak , 30 kilometers west of Sarajevo . Located along the banks of the Kresevichets river.
The population of the city is 1078 inhabitants (2013).
Content
History
The first settlement on the site of today's city is of Illyrian origin. Already in those days and later the Romans used the neighborhood to mine iron, lead, silver, gold and mercury. In the Middle Ages, Kreshevo became a royal city. First mentioned in writing in 1432. Since the XIV century, Franciscans settled here. In the 15th century, the royal court of the medieval Bosnian state was located here. The greatest prosperity was achieved during the Ottoman rule, especially in the XVIII century, in connection with the production of weapons and horse equipment. For 4 centuries of Ottoman rule, Kreshevo remained a Christian city with a very small proportion of the Muslim population.
Attractions
- The houses of traditional Bosnian architecture have been preserved in Kreshevo, 7 of them are included in the list of national monuments.
- The monastery of St. Catherine of the Franciscan Order and the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary with him are located on an elevation a little away from the city, but serves as its cultural and spiritual center. Together with the monasteries in Fojnice and the High Temple, the monastery in Kreshevo kept the traditions of Catholicism in this part of the country for centuries. The Kreshevsky monastery was the residence of the bishops of Bosna Serebryanaya four times, three of them were from Kreshevo.
- Above the city on a hill there are the remains of an ancient fortress, once there was the residence of the last Queen of Bosnia Katarina Bosnian , the wife of Stepan Tomas .
- Old forge
Kreshevo has long been famous for its forges ; in the city, an ancient working forge has been preserved. And the main souvenir that tourists take away from Kreshevo is savvy eggs, the virtuoso work of the Crescov craftsmen.
