Biography

Born September 21, 1894 in Sednev in a peasant family. In 1908 he entered the Chernigov Real School , which he graduated in 1911, immediately after graduation he moved to Petrograd , where from 1912 to 1916 he studied at St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute and St. Petersburg Polytechnic University . In 1916 he moved to Bashkortostan and got a job as a librarian in the zemstvo library of the village of Sharan , from 1917 to 1919 he worked as a librarian in the libraries of Belebey and Ufa , after which he entered short-term courses at the pedagogical department of Tomsk State University and remained there as a teacher, then was appointed Dean of the Library Faculty of the Siberian Institute of Political Education . He came up with the idea of ​​creating a Museum of library science (which existed from 1919 to 1921), which became the center of research. In 1921 he moved to the Ukrainian SSR and settled in Kiev , where he worked in various libraries. In 1927, he was elected a professor at the University of Nizhny Novgorod, this appointment determined his future fate - in 1930 he moved to Nizhny Novgorod and devoted the rest of his life to this city. In Nizhny Novgorod, then in Gorky, he worked in various libraries, was the founder of the Gorky Regional Library .

He died on April 9, 1971 in Gorky.
