Hermanus

Hermanus [1] or Hermanus ( African. and eng. Hermanus ) is a small town in the south-west of the Republic of South Africa , in the territory of the Western Cape . Part of the area Oberberh . Content

History

The settlement from which the city later grew was founded in 1855. In 1904, Hermanus received the status of a municipality . The name of the city is associated with the name of the teacher Hermanus Peters ( Hermanus Pieters ), who taught the children of local farmers the Dutch language [2] .

Geographical position

The city is located in the southern part of the province, on the coast of the Walker Bay of the Atlantic Ocean , at a distance of approximately 62 kilometers (as the crow flies) southeast of Cape Town , the provincial capital. The absolute height is 27 meters above sea ​​level [3] .

Climate

The climate of the city is subtropical Mediterranean . The average annual rainfall is 518 mm. The greatest amount of precipitation falls between April and October.
