Hermanus [1] or Hermanus ( African. and eng. Hermanus ) is a small town in the south-west of the Republic of South Africa , in the territory of the Western Cape . Part of the area Oberberh . The administrative center of the local municipality is Offstrand . It consists of three parts: Hermanus, Sandbay and Zvelichle itself.

Content
History
The settlement from which the city later grew was founded in 1855. In 1904, Hermanus received the status of a municipality . The name of the city is associated with the name of the teacher Hermanus Peters ( Hermanus Pieters ), who taught the children of local farmers the Dutch language [2] .
Geographical position
The city is located in the southern part of the province, on the coast of the Walker Bay of the Atlantic Ocean , at a distance of approximately 62 kilometers (as the crow flies) southeast of Cape Town , the provincial capital. The absolute height is 27 meters above sea level [3] .
Climate
The climate of the city is subtropical Mediterranean . The average annual rainfall is 518 mm. The greatest amount of precipitation falls between April and October. The average maximum air temperature varies from 15.9 ° C (in July) to 24.9 ° C (in February). July is the coldest month of the year. The average minimum night temperature for this month is 6.8 ° C [4] .
Population
According to the official census of 2011, the total population of Hermanus, Sandbay, and Zvelichle was 32,769, of whom 49.2% were men and 50.8% women, respectively. Racially, negros accounted for 55.9% of the population of the city, whites - 25.4%, non - color - 16.8%, Asians (including Indians ) - 0.3%, representatives of other races - 1.6%. The most common languages among citizens were: Spit (44.5%), Afrikaans (32.1%), English (11.8%) and sesoto (1.7%) [5] [6] [7] .
Transportation
Through the city passes the regional highway R43. To the west of Hermanus there is a small airport of the same name ( ICAO : FAHM) [3] .
