History
The settlement was named after the publisher, businessman and inventor Gail Borden, Jr. , when it was elected the county’s administrative center in 1891. In 1903, a conflict occurred in the city, called the “ War of Ribbons ”. The state sold lots of land in the settlement to farmers, and cattle breeders who, in order to differ from the newcomers, began to wear blue ribbons. New settlers began to wear red ribbons. The conflict quickly came to naught. Despite its status, the settlement remained small. The already small community declined during the Great Depression . By the 1980s, the city had a museum, two schools and a cafe [4] .
