The Husum Taler ( German Husumer Taler ) is the name of a very rare thaler type coin minted in 1522 by the future Danish king, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein Frederick in Husum [1] .
Husum thaler created mintsmeister Jürgen Dreves ( German: Jürgen Dreves ). It has a weight of 29.23 g and a diameter of 39 mm. On the obverse there is a portrait image of the duke and a circular inscription “FREDERICVS · DEI · GRA · SLESVICEN · ET · HOLSAC · DVX”, which means “Frederick, the grace of God, the Duke of Schleswig and Holstein”. On the reverse there is a coat of arms of several fields with a helmet located on top and a circular inscription “MONET · NOVA * ARGENTA · HVSEMEN · I5ZZ” (“New silver Khuzum coin 1522”). The coat of arms consists of several fields that occupy the heraldic symbols of Norway, Schleswig (lions), Holstein (nettle leaf) and Stormarn (swan). In the center is placed the heraldic shield of the Oldenburg House [2] . Feature of the image is a detailed and realistic portrait of the ruler. The engraver was not going to flatter the duke, but portrayed him as he was, with all the external flaws [3] [4] . There is even a hair net on the head of the future king, which is an absolutely uncharacteristic detail for portrait images [5] .
For 2010, 11 coins are known, of which 3 are in private collections [6] . One Khuzum thaler is part of the mayor of the city [7] .
This thaler is not the first coin Khuzumsk minting. In the city, the mint was opened in 1520, in a preserved building to this day on the market square [8] . What makes him special is that he became the first coin of the thaler type of Schleswig-Holstein and the first with a portrait image of a ruler in northern Germany and Scandinavia [4] [3] .
