Biography
Born in a wealthy family near Tomislavgrad . He was probably educated in a monastery in the Bosnian Franciscan province of Bosna Srebrena ( Prozor Rama ). In 1643 he was admitted to the mendicant order of the Franciscans . Ordained in 1646.
He continued his studies at Velika , then in Italy - for 3 years he studied philosophy and theology in Cremona , in 1650-1651. - in Bressanone and Naples (1651-1653).
Then he expressed a desire to return to his homeland, where he served as a priest and a preacher in different places: Veliky , Nashyts , Brod , Belgrade , Rama , Tomislavgrad or Duvno. From 1663 to 1669, Anchich was a pastor at the Visoko and Rama Monastery. Anchich’s spiritual service in Duvno and the Bosnian province of Srebrenica took place during the very difficult period of the Ottoman rule in Bosnia and Herzegovina .
In 1676, in Assisi, I. Ančić began his famous work “Vraata nebeska i život vični” (“Heaven's Gate and Eternal Life”) and finished it in Loreto in 1677. In the same year he published his work “Ogledalo misničko” in Rome . He wrote in the Shtokav dialect using the Latin alphabet , in which there are noticeable elements of the Bosnian language . His translations from Latin are good examples of his knowledge of this language.
In addition, two of his handwritten works have been preserved. The first is an autobiography (written in 1679), the second is a report on the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina (1680).
