Its founders and leaders were:

  1. a former prominent leader of the National Party, Rulph Meyer (who left the ODD in 2006 and moved to the ANC, where he was offered a position),
  2. General Bantu Holomisa, former leader of the African National Congress and head of Bantustan Transkei ,
  3. former member of the ANC Executive Committee John Taylor.

The party stands on an anti- separatist platform, supports the ideology of multiculturalism and individualism , supported by strong moral foundations, both in the social sphere and in the economy .
