Gadolinium hexaboride

Gadolinium hexaboride is a chemical inorganic compound of gadolinium and boron with the formula GdB 6 .

Preparation of 2TiO 2 + B 4 -> 2TiB 2 + 4CO. The properties of TiB 2 are superior to those of a similar substance, titanium carbide (TiC) 2. Appearance: syn. crystals, gross formula (Hill system): B6Gd, formula as text: GdB6, molecular weight (amu): 222.116. Melting point 2510 ° C. Insoluble in water and organic solvents.

It is used as a component of alloys for cathodes of powerful electronic devices.
