Kurt Riedl ( German: Kurt Rydl ; born October 8, 1947, Vienna ) is an Austrian opera singer ( bass profundo ) [4] . Graduate of the Moscow State Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky.

Biography

Kurt Riedl, who was nicknamed Mega-Bass, was born on October 8, 1947 in Vienna. He studied singing at the Vienna Academy of Music and at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory . During his life, the singer received many prizes at various competitions. Kurt Riedl has performed at major festivals in Bayreuth , Schwetzingen, Salzburg , Bregenz, Florence, Verona, Munich and Glyndeborn.

The singer’s opera repertoire includes more than 80 roles of Russian, German, Italian, French and Czech authors. The range of the singer’s concert repertoire is from Mozart to Penderecki , from Beethoven to Mahler . His bass is particularly prominent in the role of Osmin in Mozart's "Abduction from Seral" [5] .

Kurt Riedl made his debut in 1976 at the Vienna State Opera as Ferrando ( Troubadour ). Then he played the roles of Collin ( “Bohemia” ), Pimen ( “Boris Godunov” ) [6] , the Grand Inquisitor ( “Don Carlos” ), the Commander ( “Don Juan” ), Osmin ( Abduction from Seral ), Rocco ( “ Fidelio ” ), Daland ( “ The Flying Dutchman ” ), Roger ( John of Jerusalem ), King Henry ( “ Lohengrin ” ), Raymond ( “ Lucia di Lammermoor ” ), Geront ( “ Manon Lesko ” ), Talbot ( “ Mary Stuart ” ) , Veit Pogner ( "Nuremberg Meistersingers" ), Bartolo ( "Barber of Seville" ) Titurel and Gurnemanz ( "Parsifal" ), Sparafucile ( "Rigoletto" ) Fasolt ( "Rheingold" ) Hunding ( "Valkiriya" ), F fner ( "Siegfried" ), Hagen ( Götterdammerung ) Ochs ( Cavalier roses ), Landgraf ( "Tannhäuser" ) Kleggert (Billy Budd) and Zarastro ( Magic Flute ) and others.

Kurt studied in the USA for student exchange for some time and speaks English.

In 1996 he was named Austrian “Chamber Singer” (“Kammersänger”, honorary title of opera performers), and in 1999 he became an honorary member of the Vienna State Opera .

Rewards

In 2001, Kurt Riedl was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for science and art, 1st class [7] .

In 2016, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his work at the Vienna State Opera, Kurt Riedl was awarded the Grand Prix de la Culture in Vienna [8] .
