Kalizhanov, Ualihan Kalizhanuly

Born March 18, 1948 in with. Sergeevka, Almaty region, Kazakh SSR. In 1971 he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Kazakh State University. S. M. Kirova with a specialty “Philologist, teacher of the Kazakh language and literature” ^[1] , after which he got a job as his own correspondent and senior correspondent in the Almaty regional newspaper Zhetisu. In absentia he graduated from the graduate school of Kazakh State University. S. M. Kirova, defending a Ph.D. thesis on the theme "Life and work of the poet Akmolla."

Since March 1978 - instructor of the Propaganda and Mass Cultural Work Department of the Central Committee of the Young Communist League of Kazakhstan (Almaty). In 1979-1980 - head of the press sector of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Komsomol of Kazakhstan. From September 1980 to December 1986 - editor of the newspaper "Ulan" ("Kazakhstan Pioneers") of the Central Committee of the Young Communist League of Kazakhstan. From December 1986 to April 1994, he was the chief editor of the republican socio-political newspaper Leninsil Zhas (now Zhas Alash) of the Central Committee of the Young Communist League of Kazakhstan.

Since 1994 - deputy of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan of the 13th convocation, deputy chairman of the Committee on Culture, Press, Media and Public Associations. Since March 1995 - Deputy Minister of Press and Mass Media of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Since December 1995 - Deputy Head of the Department of Internal Policy of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan. From July 1996 to December 1998, he was the editor-in-chief of the republican newspaper Egemen Kazakhstan. Since December 1998 - Deputy Director of the Language Development Department of the Ministry of Information and Public Accord of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Since April 1999 - head of the press service, press secretary of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Since October 1999 - Member of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan of the 2nd convocation (Talgar constituency No. 10 of the Almaty region), member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security. Deputy head of the deputy group “Akigat”, chairman of the deputy commission on migration and relations with compatriots.

Member of the Presidium of the Political Council of the Union “National Unity of Kazakhstan” (1993-1995); Member of the Political Council of the Otan Party (November 2002 - July 2006) ^{[1] [4]} .

In 1999 he defended his thesis on "The religious and educational course of Kazakh literature of the late 19th - early 20th centuries" ^[1] for the degree of Doctor of Philology.

Since 2004 - Member of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan of the 3rd convocation .

From 2007 to 2012 - Member of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan of the 4th convocation , member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security.

Since February 2012 - Director of the Institute of Literature and Art. M. O. Auezov Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan ^[3] .

Since April 2017, he has been a member of the National Commission for the Implementation of the Program for the Modernization of Public Consciousness under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan ^[5] .

He is a member of national scientific councils in the priority area “Intellectual potential of the country” ^[6] .

Wife: Baltaeva Umitzhan (b.1949). Children: daughter - Aigul (b. 1972), son - Marat (b. 1977), grandson - Adil (b. 1997) ^[1] .
