Gert Kirkel ( Dutch: Geert Cirkel , born October 20, 1978) is a Dutch athlete, rower, winner of the World Championship in rowing in 2001 , 2005 , 2006 and 2007 . He specialized in performing in fours.

Biography

Geert Kirkel was born on October 20, 1978 in the city of Dordrecht , South Holland . He began his professional career as a rower since 1994. He trained at the AUSR ORCA club in Utrecht. Since 2008, he stopped professional rowing classes and began medical practice. He works as a therapist at the oncology department of one of the Utrecht clinics [1] .

The first international competition Kirkel took part in was the 1996 Junior Rowing World Championships in Glasgow , UK . With the result 07: 12.570 in the final swim of the twos without the FB steering group, the Dutch rowers took fifth place [2] .

Kirkel’s performance as a four-helmsman at the 2001 World Rowing Championships in Lucerne ended with a silver medal. In the final race, Dutch rowers with a score of 5: 42.64 finished second, losing to rivals from Germany (5: 40.89 - 1st place), ahead of rowers from Italy (5: 42.87 - 3rd place) [3] [4 ] ] .

At the 2007 World Rowing Championships in Munich , Kirkel competed in fours without a helmsman. With the result 05: 55.490, the Dutch rowers finished third, skipping ahead rivals from Italy (05: 55.150 - 2nd place) and New Zealand (05: 54.240 - 1st place) [5] .
