Roby is a city in the United States located in northwestern Texas , the administrative center of Fisher County . According to the 2010 census, the number of residents was 643 people, according to the US Census Bureau in 2016, 626 people lived in the city [2] .

Content

History

In 1885, Mississippi entrepreneurs named Roby convinced the people of the new Fisher County to choose their territory as the location for the administrative center. In 1886, a courthouse was built in the settlement, a post office and a school were opened. By 1890, about 300 people lived in the city, Baptist and Methodist churches worked, two shops, a hotel, a restaurant, and the weekly newspaper Fisher County Call was published. In 1892, a stone prison was built. By 1914, a bank was operating in the city, and telephone communications were made [3] .

In 1915, a seven-kilometer section of the railway from Roby to North Roby was carried out, connecting the city with the Texas Central Railroad line . In the same year, Roby received the charter of the city, the formation of local government began [3] .

Population

According to the 2010 census, 643 people lived in the city, there were 247 households and 167 families. The racial makeup of the city: 85.7% are white , 3.7% are African Americans , 0.2% are Native Americans, 0% are Asians , 0% (0 people) are residents of Hawaii or Oceania, 9.2% are others. races, 1.2% - two or more races. The number of Hispanic residents of any race was 35.1% [7] .

Out of 247 households, children under 18 live in 38.9%. 48.6% of households were couples living together (24.3% with children under 18 years of age), in 14.2% of households women lived without husbands, in 4.9% of households men lived without wives, 32.4% of households were not families. In 30.4% of households, only one person lived, 16.2% were single elderly people (over 65). The average household size was 2.56. The average family size is 3.23 people [7] .

The population of the city by age range was as follows: 32.2% - residents under 20 years old, 20.9% are between the ages of 20 and 39, 29.1% are between 40 and 64, 17.7% are 65 and older . The average age is 38.3 years [7] .

The per capita income for the city is $ 15,341. About 17.1% of families and 26.3% of the population are below the poverty line.
