Biography
George was born on October 29, 1928 in Tbilisi and lived with his parents and older sister Nana at 11 Zandukeli St. His father, Konstantin Antonovich Totibadze taught physics at the gymnasium, and his mother, Elena Kundadze, taught Georgian. Before the revolution, his grandfather, Anton Totibadze (1865 - 1938), was the confessor of the family of the imperial governor of the Caucasus, Vorontsov-Dashkov , and then - rector of the Sioni temple and the Kashveti church. In 1942, George began to draw in the circle of graphics and painting at the Tbilisi Palace of Pioneers, located at Rustaveli Rospect.
Since 1947 he studied at the Tbilisi Academy of Arts (class of W. M. Dzhaparidze ), which he graduated in 1953.
In 1959 he graduated from the graduate school at the Tbilisi Academy of Arts and from the same year he taught as a professor.
From 1972 to 1982 he headed the academy as a rector [2] .
He also directed the creative workshop of the Academy of Arts in Tbilisi. Since 1975 - a corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR .
He was buried in the Didubian pantheon of writers and public figures .
Creativity
In the 1970s, he participated in painting the halls of the Pirosmani restaurant in Tbilisi.
Among the artist's works are “On the New Samgorsk Land” (1953), portraits of M. Kavtaradze (1956) and N. Amiradzhibi (1957), “Rustavi Metallurgists” (1958), “On Tea Plantations” (1962), “Tamara” ( 1967), "Tea growers", "Uprising in Guria in 1841" (both - 1970); portraits - retired Major General N. T. Tavartkiladze (1979-80), singer Dina Dzhitova (pastel, 1985), Elena Obraztsova (pastel, 1990); series of autolithographs "Kakheti winegrowers" (1979). “Toastmaster” (1967) and “Perennial” (1988) are in the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery . - First marriage, wife - Nana Apollonovna Kutateladze [1] (1946–2015, Paris), daughter of Apollo Karamanovich Kutateladze and Maria Ivanovna Evdokimova.
- His son George (born 1967) is an artist [4] , an athlete, has five gold medals in the country's karate championship, a silver award from the prestigious international tournament in Japan, and two bronzes of the world championship. Wife Irina, with whom they studied together at the Higher Art School named after 1905 . Later, George transferred to the Tbilisi Academy of Arts. Irina arrived with her husband (received a red diploma), George did not receive a diploma. Children: Nana, Manana, and Barbara [5] . Lives and works in Moscow.
