Military career
Born in Tbilisi . He served in the Armed Forces of the USSR from 1987 to 1989. In 1991, he joined the National Guard of Georgia as a volunteer, participated in armed conflicts in post-Soviet Georgia. He took an active part in the war in Abkhazia and was one of the senior commanders. During one of the battles he was seriously wounded near the town of Gagra . He received nine bullets in the chest and survived, although he did not manage to fully recover [2] .
He graduated from the Ryazan Higher Airborne School in 1996 and the Frunze Military Academy in 1999.
In 2000, Colonel Kobaladze was appointed Commander of the Ground Forces of Georgia. He passed retraining in NATO centers in the USA , Germany , and Turkey from 2001 to 2003. In 2001, he became commander of the National Guard of Georgia, resigned in 2004. In 2009 he became the founder of the Club of Generals [3] .
Arrest and Court
In May 2009, Kobaladze was arrested on charges of conspiracy and a failed insurgency in the Georgian tank battalion , which, according to the Georgian authorities, was supported by the Russian authorities. He was acquitted of this charge on January 11, 2010. At the same time, he was convicted of illegal possession of firearms and hand grenades and was sentenced to eight months in prison. However, since by that time he had already spent eight months in prison, he was immediately released from the courtroom [4] . At the moment, he is the only Georgian who has been awarded all three degrees of the Vakhtang Gorgasal Order [5] .
